About Us

fbi.radio is an independent, not for profit community radio station. We are an evolving community of local broadcasters and creatives. Every day, our hundreds of dedicated volunteers champion new local music, voices and stories.

What is fbi.radio?

Our vision is to champion Sydney’s emerging and independent music, arts and culture - at home and beyond.

We create a community of young broadcasters and creatives, and empower our volunteers to discover and showcase local independent artists.

fbi 94.5FM has been on air since 2003, and was forging pathways in the radio landscape even before that. We play 50% Australian music, with half of that from Sydney.

In 2024, fbi.radio was launched - matching the legacy of community programming, with the tools for you to access it.

Where can I hear fbi.radio?

Right here. Or more specifically click to hear what’s on air right now in the toolbar above. Beyond that, there’s a wealth of radio to discover on the Explore page. We’re online and on your mobile.

We broadcast on FM radio. You can tune in to 94.5FM right across Greater Sydney, from Katoomba to Gosford to Wollongong.

We’re on DAB+, just scan for fbi.radio on your digital radio in Sydney.

How long has fbi.radio been around?

fbi [Free Broadcast Inc] was established in 1995 and ran a series of month-long test broadcasts for many years. After a lengthy campaign for a full-time licence, the Australian Broadcasting Authority granted fbi a licence to broadcast across Sydney on 94.5FM. The station launched full time on August 29, 2003.

2024 Annual General Meeting

Free Broadcast Incorporated (fbi.radio) will hold its Annual General Meeting (AGM) at 6:30pm on Tuesday 19 November 2024.

The AGM is the instrument through which members most actively influence the way fbi is managed.

At the AGM, members can hear our Management Committee and staff talk through the activities of fbi.radio for the past year, and recognise and celebrate the achievements of our volunteer base and community.

Importantly, the AGM sets broad station policy and elects the Management Committee who will represent the members in the ongoing management of the station.

Attendance can be in person at 44-54 Botany Road, Alexandria, NSW 2015 or via Zoom using this link.

This year, the positions open for nomination are:

  • Secretary (3 year term)
  • Vice-President (Youth) (2 year term)
  • 2x Ordinary Member (3 year term)

The list of 2024 nominees and their bios can be found here.
