ARTIST SPOTLIGHT

Elle Shimada (Naarm / Melbourne)
Elle Shimada, the Tokyo-raised, Melbourne-based queen of beats and strings, just dropped a banger that’s making waves. Her track "PUSSY POWER POLITICS," features fireeeeee bars from rapper POOKIE (from last weeks spotlight), is a bold anthem of feminism and empowerment. Picture fat basslines, jazzy vibes, and a groove that demands you move, even if you don’t want to. SLAPS - a dance floor revolution.

She creates a unique vibe, blending new-jazz energy with unapologetic activism. If you’re into beats that make you think and dance, this one’s for you.

June Jones (Naarm / Melbourne)
Melbourne’s alt-pop wizard, making total a heart-melters and "Looking Out for an Angel” is the one that hits deepest. She blends her signature raw, emotional vocals with lush, haunting synths. It’s all about that longing feeling—searching for connection in a world that can feel a little too big sometimes. Hallowing.

This is the the kind of song I play when I'm lying on the floor, and I just want to stare at the ceiling, and feeling everything all at once. Hurting for no reason, or for all the reasons. It’s from her upcoming EP Proximity, this one is filled with gut wrenchers and cinematic energy for days. DO NOT sleep on June Jones— you can even support her and listen to up and coming tracks on her Pateron.

Jason Dhakal (Guest Selector Genesis M - Manila, Philippines)
Born and raised in Oman, moved to the Philippines when they were 16 and started his career - openly queer and unapologetic about his politics. Fully embraces Filipino queerness.

His track Body & Soul is reminiscent of Frank Ocean’s - but it’s still uniquely Filipino, and has Island approach to s3xiness. If you liked this track, you need to watch the film clip, which will add another layer of mind-blowing goodness.

Interview w/ANESU an Artist, Producer, Curator from Boorloo (Perth), now based in so-called Sydney, with roots in Zimbabwe, making waves with his fresh take on hip-hop, soul, rnb and a touch of electronic.
