Interview
Some deem him a futurist, some suggest a pioneer who has cast a huge line in the hybrid of beats, jazz and r'n'b. Some honour his patience in teaching as Liveschool students. So so many suggest a container for space that is intentionally held; cultivating a warming energy both freeing and transcendent. All of these someones would be entirely correct in such claims. Josh Panakera-Moloney is @setwun; a vessel of sonic chromosomes that we are incredibly fortunate enough to share a timeline with. Releasing intuitively, he thrives on collaboration, and beholds a fiery penchant for creation that seemingly never burns out. Naturally manifesting into larger entities, this force has birthed Soulstravision - a platform for expression, for space, for friends, us and himself. Without restraint or force, but to be. A library materialising before us, the parameters of Soulstravision are due to broaden gracefully this year, with the expanding catalogue selected with careful consideration. As the bow to this gift loosens, the live show too grows; with an incredibly special performance taking place this weekend. With his fleet of Soulstranauts in tow, Setwun and his family admit their selected reimaginations of the legendary Roy Ayers, as part of Sydney Festival this weekend. Taking place at ACO On The Pier, expect an incredible homage paid to the grandfather of Neo-Soul in a beautifully revered setting.
