Surfacing is dedicated to songwriters and composers exploring interesting and experimental musical territories.
Tonight’s playlist theme is ‘Water against the rocks’ – it’s a tribute to Mick Turner’s album Marlan Rosa, and music that swirls in peaceful but unpredictable ways. I found out the other day that it’s been 25 years since the album came out – shoutout to my old housemate and bandmate Pat Ewing who introduced me to it. An article that came out around that time said, “Dirty Three is the waves crashing against the rocks in a strong wind. Mick Turner's solo music is the water breaking against the rocks, swirling around restlessly trying to find calm", and that's where inspiration for this playlist came from.
